Director Statement
I had no idea what would unfold when I started compulsively filming my cat like a wild animal. I certainly didn't think anyone would hear the made-up love songs I sang to my cat, either.
But the touching journey proved so emotional that the Maelstrom Art Collective featured the film at a "Crying Party," an event holding space for public tears. The Paradise Film Festival also screened the film in Budapest.
"Joey and Christina" has a message about seeing the aliveness and beauty in all beings until the end of their cycle. This is metaphorically played out through footage of a rose hedge in different seasonal stages and in the final, original song, "Don't Deadhead Your Roses."
Enjoy the vivid colors and dynamic cinematography. You will cry happy/sad tears. Sorry about it. But also...you're welcome.
Christina :)
